July 2018

During the month of July 2018, the planets Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury will be visible in the evening sky. (To see a closer view, click on the image.)

Venus is the extremely bright "star" visible after sunset above the western horizon, while Mercury will appear less bright and much closer to the horizon. (Consider yourself very lucky if you're able to spot Mercury--most people can't find it!  Because it will appear so low to the western horizon after sunset, you need a clear view of the horizon, with no trees or buildings in the way.) Jupiter will appear slightly less bright and above the southern horizon after sunset, and Saturn is slightly fainter than Jupiter, rising in the southeast after sunset.
